Luikart earns second Preseason All-America nod

DALLAS — Wright State's Jay Luikart received a Third Team Preseason All-America nod from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Thursday.

It is the second preseason All-America recognition for the two-way player, as he was honored by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in December 2022.

Luikart starred as Wright State's starting outfielder and closer on the mound in 2022, helping the Raiders claim their fifth Horizon League Championship in the last seven seasons and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

The Ashland, Ohio native slugged .299/.409/.544 with 14 doubles, three triples, 10 homers, 31 RBI, and 49 runs scored while adding 36 walks and five stolen bases over 54 starts last season. The fourth-year junior recorded 22 multi-hit performances and closed the 2022 campaign on a seven-game hitting streak.

On the mound, Luikart went 4-2 with a team-low 2.53 ERA and seven saves in 21.1 innings. The left-hander held opponents to a .213 batting average and allowed just six earned runs over 18 appearances in relief. Luikart tallied a team-leading 12 scoreless outings, including nine appearances with no hits given up.

Luikart's standout play led to spots on the All-Horizon League Second Team and the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament Team.
