
Raiders fall to Kentucky in series finale

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Wright State baseball program lost its series finale to Kentucky 15-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park.
The Raiders drop to 2-5 on the season and will conclude their season-opening road slate from March 3-5 at Arkansas.
Wright State struggled offensively with four hits and two walks compared to nine strikeouts in the loss. Justin Riemer reached base three times on a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Andrew Patrick batted 1-of-3 with a double, while Jay Luikart and Dane Thomas added singles.
The Raider pitching staff was tagged for 15 runs on 16 hits, nine walks, and three hit by pitches. Starting pitcher Alex Theis (0-2) received the losing decision after allowing six runs on six hits and a walk in 1.1 innings of work. Reliever Joey Valentine gave up six runs on two hits and four walks in two-thirds on an inning.
Ben Vore was a bright spot out of the pen, as he held Kentucky (5-2) scoreless and hitless in 1.1 innings of action. Calvin Mitchell tossed a team-high 2.0 innings in relief, allowing one run while striking out three batters.
The Wildcat offense scored in six different frames, highlighted by a four-run second inning and a six-run eighth inning. Devin Burkes drove in a game-best seven runs on three extra-base hits for UK. Starting pitcher Zack Lee took the win for Kentucky after holding Wright State scoreless on three hits in six innings of work.
