DAYTON – Four players finished in double figures, paced by a career-best 22 points by
AJ Braun, as the Wright State men's basketball team cruised to a 103-71 Wednesday night victory over IUPUI inside the Nutter Center.
Wright State (15-11, 8-7 Horizon) has now won four of its last five contests heading into Friday night's nationally televised matchup against Northern Kentucky on ESPNU. Prior to Friday's 9 p.m. tipoff, the Raiders will celebrate Senior Night with festivities set to begin around 8:45 p.m. on the court.
On Wednesday, Wright State saw IUPUI (4-22, 1-14 Horizon) score four of the first six points before the Raiders rolled off a 19-3 run over the next five-plus minutes to gain control of the night and never look back. The Raiders closed the first half with 12 of the final 17 points to lead 56-33 at the break before a 9-2 scoring stretch early in the second half put the game away.
Braun finished the night 8-of-9 from the floor while connecting on six of his seven free throw attempts, as his 18 first half points gave him a new scoring high after just 20 minutes on the way to the game-high 22, as he added seven rebounds and a pair of assists in just 18 minutes of action.
Amari Davis' 15-point performance was his 14th double-digit scoring output of the season, but his first in nearly a month, while
Brandon Noel filled up his stat line with a 12-point, eight rebound, seven assist night.
Trey Calvin was the final Raider in double figures with 11 points, nine of which came in the first half, as he logged only 22 minutes of action, while
Alex Huibregtse and
Blake Sisley each tallied nine points as all 11 Raiders who saw action found the scoring column.
The Raiders passed out 24 attempts on 36 made baskets, with eight different players passing out multiple helpers in the win.
Wright State shot 66 percent in the first half before finishing the night at 58 percent (36-62) from the floor, connecting on a trio of three-pointers in each half (6-14, 43 percent). Defensively, the Raiders held IUPUI to 45 percent overall shooting (25-56) while the visitors hit six of their 22 three-point attempts (27 percent). Wright State finished with a 40-27 rebounding edge, including pulling down 28 defensive rebounds, while the Raiders forced 13 IUPUI turnovers that they converted into 23 points off those giveaways.
