Baseball travels to Northern Kentucky for weekend series

DAYTON — The Wright State baseball program travels to Northern Kentucky for a three-game series from March 31 to April 2 at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex. Live stats will be available for the entirety of the weekend slate.

LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders had their seven-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday, falling to Xavier 16-8 at home. Wright State tallied eight runs on 10 hits (5 for extra bases) and seven walks but gave up 12 earned runs and a season-high 18 hits. Sammy Sass paced the offense by batting 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Carson Clark finished with two singles, a sacrifice fly, and a walk. Joey Valentine and Garret Simpson recorded scoreless outings in relief.
HISTORY VS. NKU
The Raiders have won 19-straight games against Northern Kentucky dating back to 2019. Wright State went 6-0 versus NKU last season, outscoring the Norse 78-29 with four double-digit scoring games and two shutouts. Notably, Julian Greenwell batted .435 over the six games with nine runs batted in and two stolen bases. Individually, five starters are batting above .300 on the year. The projected weekend rotation has compiled a 7-4 record over 20 starts.
AWARDS SWEEP
Andrew Patrick and Sebastian Gongora swept the latest Horizon League weekly awards. Patrick earned Horizon League Batter of the Week after slashing .350/.391/.800 with three doubles, two homers, eight RBI, and seven runs scored over five wins last week, tallying three multi-hit performances, three multi-RBI games, and a 3-for-3 mark on stolen bases. Gongora tossed eight shutout innings in Wright State's series-clinching 9-1 victory over Oakland (3/26), allowing just five hits while striking out seven batters en route to HL Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in his collegiate career.
WINNING WAYS
Wright State opened the 2023 season 3-9 overall but has followed with ten wins in its last 12 games. The Raiders have outscored opponents 101-63 in the 12-game stretch, batting .307 with 27 doubles, five triples, and 12 home runs, while the pitching staff has carried a 4.00 team ERA and struck out 115 batters.
