MILWAUKEE — The Wright State baseball program lost to Milwaukee 6-5 in 10 innings on Friday afternoon at Franklin Field.
The Raiders (16-14, 7-4 HL) gained a 5-3 lead in the top of the 10th inning after recording back-to-back doubles and adding a run scored on a wild pitch. However, Milwaukee (12-14, 4-6 HL) started the bottom of the frame with four consecutive hits, punctuated by a walk-off two-run single off the bat of Luke Seidel.
Andrew Patrick paced Wright State at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run homer, and three runs scored. The sophomore added a stolen base and a hit by pitch in the loss.
Jay Luikart reached base four times on a team-best three hits and a walk, while
Julian Greenwell batted 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run.
Luikart (1-1) was handed his first loss of the season after giving up three runs on four hits in the bottom of the 10th inning. Starting pitcher
Sebastian Gongora was tagged for three runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out four batters in six innings of work.
Tristan Haught stood out by firing three shutout innings in relief.
The Raiders reached the scoreboard in the opening inning of the conference contest, as Patrick was plunked in the leadoff spot, stole second, reached third on a single by Greenwell, and scored on a groundout double play.
MKE tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single, but Patrick put WSU back in front with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.
The Panthers cut their deficit to 3-2 with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth and evened the game on a run-scoring bunt single in the bottom of the seventh.
Wright State broke the 3-3 tie in the top of the 10th, as Patrick and Greenwell notched back-to-back doubles. Greenwell came around to score on a wild pitch to extend the Raider edge to 5-3. Milwaukee rallied back with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame to clinch the series.
