DAYTON — The Wright State men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2023 seasons on Friday evening, as the Raiders hosted their annual Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic at Fairborn Community Park.
The women's team placed fifth out of 15 teams, while the Raider men took ninth overall in a field that included Ashland, Cedarville, Dayton, IUPUI, Oakland, and Ohio State.
Kaitlyn Miller paced Wright State in the women's 5,000-meter run, as she placed 16th overall with a time of 18:21.8. Following behind Miller was
Emma Johnson (39th, 19:15.4) and
Alicia Neumeier (46th, 19:38.6) with top-50 finishes.
Reece Barnitz (57th, 20:33.1),
Anna Johnson (65th, 20:48.2), Sydney Thompson (77th, 21:19.1),
Alycea Ruhlen (78th, 21:20.0),
Kayla Compton (79th, 21:20.1),
Brooklyn Salyers (93rd, 21:46.5),
Cecilia Alexander (104th, 22:35.2),
Mia Wyngarden (114th, 23:11.1), and
Carly Biederman (122nd, 24:24.9) also competed for the Raider women.
The men's team was led by
Alex McCarty in 14th (15:05.0) and
Noah Sharp in 32nd (15:24.3).
Bryce Page (73rd, 16:10.1),
Ethan Neblock (82nd, 16:17.7), and
Ben Schrumpf (93rd, 16:28.1) rounded out the Raiders' top-five finishers in the men's 5K.
Tayton Hess (96th, 16:33.9),
Ryan Cooper (108th, 16:45.0),
Alan Fullenkamp (117th, 16:59.7),
John Steimle (132nd, 17:35.1),
Michael Cole (134th, 17:38.9),
Gavin Hutchinson (145th, 18:46.6), and
Nathan Childs (154th, 19:07.5) also ran on the men's side.
Both Raider squads are back in action in two weeks, when Wright State travels to the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Cedarville, on September 15.
