Raiders receive ten All-Horizon League honors

INDIANAPOLIS – The Wright State baseball team received ten Horizon League honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
 
The Raiders put three players, Julian Greenwell, Sammy Sass, and Ben Vore, on the All-League First Team, and four on the All-League Second Team, Cam Allen, Patrick Fultz, Jay Luikart, and Boston Smith. Allen collected a second honor, being added to the All-Freshman team alongside teammate Chet Lax. Jake Shirk was recognized as a finalist for the newly added Sportsmanship award.
 
Head coach Alex Sogard was awarded his fourth Coach of the Year award, continuing his program record broken for most earned at Wright State. He shares the title with Northern Kentucky head coach Dizzy Peyton.
 
ALL-LEAGUE FIRST TEAM
Julian Greenwell
Greenwell leads the league and is No. 14 nationally with his .404 batting average. Recording 69 hits with 20 doubles, one triple, and ten home runs, he has tallied 49 RBI. The designated hitter holds a .708 slugging percentage, ranked third in the HL, and a .472 on-base percentage, going five-of-six on stolen bases. Greenwell leads the league as the toughest to strikeout, with a mere 15 strikeouts in his 171 at bats. This is the senior's second All-League honor, earning a spot on the first team in 2022.
 
Sammy Sass
Now earning his third All-League honor, Sass is batting .368 on the season with 61 RBI. He is second in the league with 78 hits on the season, tallying 34 extra-base hits, including 20 doubles to rank him tied for third in the HL. He is tied for the top of the league with five sacrifice flies on the season. The Upper Arlington, Ohio native holds a .656 slugging percentage and .414 on-base percentage. Sass has 271 putouts on the season, holding a .987 fielding percentage.
 
Ben Vore
Vore leads the team and is second in the league with 19 home runs and 72 RBI, tallying 65 hits on the season. He holds a .325 batting average and ranks fourth in the League with a .700 slugging percentage. His four triples tie him for forth in the HL and is tied for first with five sacrifice flies. The Lexington, Ohio native is tied for sixth with 15 stolen bases.
 
ALL-LEAGUE SECOND TEAM
Cam Allen
Making his mark as a true freshman, Allen earned a spot on the All-League Second Team. The right-handed relief pitcher put up a 1-1 record, tallying three saves. Allen made 15 appearances, putting in 21.2 innings of work while striking out 24 batters and allowing only eight extra-base hits.
 
Patrick Fultz
Fultz earned his spot on the All-League second team, putting up a .319 batting average with 51 hits. The third baseman recorded 13 doubles on the season and reached base 27 times on balls. Fultz played in 46 games, starting in 44. This is his second All-League honor, being named to the All-Freshman team in 2023.
 
Jay Luikart
Luikart adds his third All-League honor, being named to the Second Team in 2022 and the First Team in 2023. The Ashland, Ohio native is batting .333 on the season, with a .639 slugging percentage and .417 on-base percentage. He sits third in the league with 65 RBI, and sixth with 73 hits. His 18 home runs rank him third in the league. The first baseman ranks fifth in the league with 321 putouts, holding a .998 fielding percentage.
 
Boston Smith
Smith earns his spot on the All-League Second Team batting .315 on the season. He has tallied 57 hits, with 10 doubles, sitting tied for fourth in the league with four triple and tied for third with 18 home runs. The Arcanum, Ohio native is second in the league with a .713 slugging percentage and third with a 1.121 OPS.
 
ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Cam Allen
Earning his second All-League honor, Allen has been named to the All-Freshman team in addition to earning a spot on the All-League Second Team. The Akron, Ohio native made 15 appearances out of the bullpen, earning three saves, putting up a 1-1 record. Allen put in 21.2 innings on the mound, striking out 24 batters and allowing only eight extra-base hits.
 
Chet Lax
Lax has made a name for himself in his first season of collegiate ball, making 17 appearances on the season with eight starts. The left-handed pitcher put in 52.1 innings of work, striking out 44 batters. Lax sits tied for sixth in the league with four wins on the season.

SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD FINALIST
Jake Shirk
Shirk was honored as a finalist for the newly added Sportsmanship Award. The award honors student-athletes that have demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior, distinguishing themselves through respect, integrity, and their values.
