Women’s Basketball Resumes Non-Con Play at Canisius Friday Evening

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (5-6) will resume non-conference play on the road Friday evening, heading up to Canisius. Tip-off in Buffalo is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Canisius enters Friday's contest at 1-7 on the season, winning its last game against Mercyhurst back on November 30, 75-67. The Golden Griffins are 1-2 from the friendly confines of Koessler Athletic Center, so far this season
Junior Shariah Gailes paces the Canisius offense, leading the team with 14.1 points per game and scoring in double-digits four times. Gailes scored a season-high 28 points in the team's most recent outing against Mercyhurst (Nov. 30), marking her highest point total as a Golden Griffin. The Brooklyn, Ohio native also leads the squad in rebounding, hauling in 7.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore Corniya Clay has turned in two consecutive double-digit scoring figures heading into Friday's contest. The Toledo, Ohio native leads the team in field goal percentage (58.3%) and three-point percentage (46.2%).
HISTORY VS. CANISIUS
Friday's game will mark the eighth all-time meeting between Wright State and Canisius, a series the Golden Griffins lead 5-2. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2007-08 season, when the Raiders came out on top 57-40 inside the Nutter Center. Wright State is 0-3 at the Koessler Athletic Center.

The Wright State women's basketball team dropped its first Horizon League road contest of the season Sunday afternoon, falling to Purdue Fort Wayne 52-68.
The Raiders got a balanced scoring attack with 8 different Raiders finding their way onto the box score. Claire Henson and Breezie Williams tied for the team lead with nine points apiece, followed closely by Rylee Sagester and Lauren Scott with eight points each. Williams also led the team in rebounds, snagging a season-high 10 and swiping three more steals.
Three different Raiders knocked down a three-pointer in the first quarter, with Elaina Rager, Sagester, and Scott all knocking down a shot from beyond the arc. Purdue Fort Wayne extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Wright State 20-11 in the period to jump out to a 12-point halftime lead.
The Mastodons came out of the halftime locker room on fire, shooting 46.2% from the floor in the third quarter, ballooning their lead to as large as 20 in the fourth quarter. The Raiders went on an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut the lead as low as 10 points with 2:28 left to play. Purdue Fort Wayne would hit nine free throws in the final two minutes to ensure that the Raiders couldn't get any closer.
HORIZON LEAGUE RANKS
Wright State features one of the Horizon League's most potent offenses, leading the league with 786 points and scoring a second-best 71.5 points per game. The Raiders are getting it done from beyond the three-point line, shooting 33.3% and knocking down a league high 8.5 three-pointers per game, followed by Northern Kentucky at 7.4 per game.

Wright State is not only the best three-point shooting team in the Horizon League but is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country. The Raiders are 46th in the country in three-pointers made per game with 8.5 while shooting 33.3%, a mark that is 88th in Division one. Wright State does this while attempting the 15th most in the nation, attempting 93 across its first 11 games.
BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 12.4 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game across her first 11 games in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio native is shooting an impressive 40.9% from the floor, 32.6% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.5 steals per game. Williams is 12th in the Horizon League in points per game (12.4), fourth in field goal percentage (40.9%), and third in steals per game (2.5). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Senior Claire Henson has been a double-double machine for the Raiders this season. The senior has a team and conference high three double-doubles and is just four behind the NCAA lead of seven. Henson recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb.), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.). Chloe Chard Peloquin recorded the only other double-double for the Raiders in the season opener against Butler (15 pts. and 11 rebs.).
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 44.4% from beyond the arc, which is a team best and conference best. Nationally, Sagester is tied for 24th in three-pointers made with 28 and tied for 74th in three-pointers per game with 2.6, both marks top the Horizon League. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in seven of the Raiders' 11 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 87 rebounds so far this season. Henson is second in the Horizon League with 7.9 rebounds per game. The senior grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Ohio on November 22, topping her previous high of 12 against Bellarmine earlier this season. The senior has grabbed eight or more rebounds in seven of Wright State's 11 games.
RECORD-BREAKING HOME OPENER
The Raiders set a new program best for points scored in a single game with 122 points. Their first time eclipsing 100 points since November 10, 2017, against Northwestern (OH).

Ellie Magestro-Kennedy (17), Elaina Rager (17), Rylee Sagester (17), and Grace Okih (16) all scored double-digits, with Okih and Rager setting new career highs. All 11 available Raiders saw action on the court tonight, with each player scoring at least four points.
