Women’s Basketball Readies for Midweek Action at Youngstown

DAYTON- Wright State (5-7) will resume Horizon League play on Tuesday, December 16, on the road against Youngstown State. Tip-off in Youngstown is set for 6:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown enters Friday's contest at 6-3 on the season with a 1-1 mark in Horizon League play. The Penguins feature a 2-1 record at the Beeghly Center with wins over Thiel and Bucknell.
Sixth Year Casey Santoro powers the Youngstown offense, leading the team with 13.4 points and 2.9 assists per game. She does this while shooting 41.9% from the floor, a league best 44.2% from beyond the arc, and 85.7% from the free-throw line. Santoro's 2.1 three-pointers per game place her tied for third in the Horizon League.
Reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Sophia Gregory is having a stellar sophomore campaign, scoring 9.7 points per game while averaging a team-high 7.8 rebounds. Gregory's 7.8 rebounds per game currently place her tied for second in the Horizon League with Claire Henson. Gregory is currently second on the team with 1.1 blocks per game, trailing Paulina Hernandez, who is averaging a league-high 2.2.
HISTORY VS. YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Tuesday's game will mark the 75th all-time meeting between Wright State and Youngstown State, a series the Raiders lead 43-31. A season ago, the Raiders swept the season series over the Penguins, including a 73-58 home win in the opening round of the Horizon League tournament. Wright State has won its last two meetings in Youngstown, with its last loss at the Beeghly Center coming on January 26, 2023.

The Raiders slipped on the road at Canisius Friday night, falling to the Golden Griffins 60-65

BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 11.9 points, 2.3 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game across her first 12 games in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio, native is shooting an impressive 41.5% from the floor, 31.1% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.3 steals per game. Williams is 12th in the Horizon League in points per game (11.9) and third in steals per game (2.3). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds.
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 43.3% from beyond the arc, which is a team best and second in the Horizon League. Nationally, Sagester is tied for 31st in three-pointers made with 29 and tied for 93rd in three-pointers per game with 2.4. She tops the Horizon League in three-pointers made and is second in three-point percentage. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in eight of the Raiders' 12 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CLAIRE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 93 rebounds so far this season. Henson is tied for second in the Horizon League with 7.8 rebounds per game. The senior grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Ohio on November 22, topping her previous high of 12 against Bellarmine earlier this season. The senior has grabbed eight or more rebounds in seven of Wright State's 11 games.
Henson also has a team and conference high of three double-doubles. The senior has recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb.), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.). Chloe Chard Peloquin recorded the only other double-double for the Raiders in the season opener against Butler (15 pts. and 11 rebs.).

The Raiders set a new program best for points scored in a single game with 122 points. Their first time eclipsing 100 points since November 10, 2017, against Northwestern (OH).

Breezie Williams led all players in points for the second game in a row, following up her 27-point performance with another 20-point performance in just 14 minutes. Ellie Magestro-Kennedy (17), Elaina Rager (17), Rylee Sagester (17), and Grace Okih (16) all scored double-digits, with Okih and Rager setting new career highs. All 11 available Raiders saw action on the court tonight, with each player scoring at least four points.
