Women’s Basketball to Open Horizon League Play Against Oakland

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (4-5) returns home to the Nutter Center on Wednesday, December 3, to open Horizon League play against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to Gate 9. Donations will go directly to the Boys and Girls Club of Dayton. Santa will also be in attendance for pictures.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland enters Wednesday night at 3-4 on the season and is coming off its first road win of the season at St. Thomas last Wednesday, taking down the Tommies 68-52.
Redshirt sophomore Cali Denison paces the Oakland offense, leading the team in points per game with 12.1, shooting 37.5% from the floor and from behind the arc. Sereni Roberts-Adams (5.7), Makenzie Luehring (5.3), and Layla Gold (5.1).
HISTORY VS. OAKLAND
Wednesday's game will mark the 31st all-time meeting between Wright State and Oakland, a series the Raiders lead 22-8. The two teams split the series last year, with each school winning on its home court. The Raiders came out on top 60-53 when the two teams met in the Nutter Center on February 19th.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders fell to Florida Atlantic and Air Force over the weekend in Florida.
On Friday, the Raiders dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Florida Atlantic, falling 65-66. Claire Henson led the Raiders with a season-high 19 points, followed by Breezie Williams with 18 and Lauren Scott with 15. Williams finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds.
On Saturday, came up just short of Air Force Saturday afternoon in Florida, falling 49-59. Breezie Williams (16) and Claire Henson (11) finished with double-digit points for the second straight game. Henson led the Raiders in rebounds for the second straight game with eight, followed by Grace Okih with six. Wright State had six different players dish out its seven assists.
HORIZON LEAGUE RANKS
Wright State features the Horizon League's most potent offense, leading the league with 673 points and averaging 74.8 points per game. The Raiders are getting it done from beyond the three-point line, shooting 33.3% and knocking down a league high 8.8 three-pointers per game, followed by Northern Kentucky at 7.8 per game.
BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 13.1 points, 2.6 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game across her first nine games in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio native is shooting an impressive 42.5% from the floor, 31.6% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.4 steals per game, highlighted by a nine-steal performance against Florida Atlantic. Williams is seventh in the Horizon League in points per game (13.1), fourth in field goal percentage (42.5%), and third in steals per game (2.4). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action.
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 44.6% from beyond the arc, which is a team best and second in the conference. Nationally, Sagester is tied for thirteenth in three-pointers made with 25 and tied for forty-ninth in three-pointers per game with 2.78, both marks top the Horizon League. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in six of the Raiders' nine games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 74 rebounds across the team's first nine games. Henson is third in the Horizon League with 8.2 rebounds per game, and Henson grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Ohio on November 22, topping her previous high of 12 against Bellarmine earlier this season. The senior has grabbed eight or more rebounds in six of Wright State's nine games.
RECORD-BREAKING HOME OPENER
The Raiders set a new program best for points scored in a single game with 122 points. Their first time eclipsing 100 points since November 10, 2017, against Northwestern (OH).
The Raiders led wire-to-wire, taking the lead just 19 seconds into the game and never looking back. Breezie Williams led all players in points for the second game in a row, following up her 27-point performance with another 20-point performance in just 14 minutes. Ellie Magestro-Kennedy (17), Elaina Rager (17), Rylee Sagester (17), and Grace Okih (16) all scored double-digits, with Okih and Rager setting new career highs. All 11 available Raiders saw action on the court tonight, with each player scoring at least four points.

The Raiders return nine players from last season while adding four newcomers (two transfers and two freshmen).
The squad features four seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. The roster also expands not only across the nation, with four different states represented (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin), but across the globe, with three international student-athletes (England, Nigeria, Sweden).
