DAYTON – Career nights from TJ Burch and Solomon Callaghan led the Wright State men's basketball team to an 88-73 home victory over visiting Oakland in Horizon League action on Monday night as the Raiders closed out the 2025 calendar year with a bang.
Wright State (7-7, 2-1 Horizon) looks to keep the momentum going on Thursday afternoon, when the Raiders have a quick turnaround and welcome Milwaukee to the Nutter Center for a 2 p.m. New Years Day tipoff. Fans can follow the action several ways – on ESPN+, via live stats or by tuning in to the Wright State Radio Network – 101.5 FM 'The Fridge' and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play action on the radio and television feeds.
Monday night, Callaghan connected on a career-best six three-pointers, including five in the first half, on his way to a 20-point night, just one point shy of his career high, while Burch finished with 17 points and had six steals, both new career highs of his own.
The Raiders led for 39 minutes over Oakland (6-8, 2-1 Horizon), who scored the opening basket before Wright State rattled off seven straight points, spearheaded by Burch. After a Kellen Pickett basket to tie the game early at two, Burch swiped his first steal and turned it into a layup and three-point play before immediately tallying another steal and score – all in the opening 67 seconds – to set the tone for the Raiders, who started 7-of-7 from the floor.
Wright State went on a 23-5 scoring run midway through the first half to open up the margin, with Callaghan scoring 12 of his 20 during the stretch, as the Raiders took a 51-39 advantage into the half and later began the second 20 minutes on a 10-3 run to keep control throughout the contest.
Callaghan finished the night shooting 7-of-9 from the floor with a 6-of-7 mark from deep on the way to his 20 points, while Burch filled his stat line, adding four assists and three rebounds to his 17 points and six steals. Michael Imariagbe went 7-of-9 at the free throw stripe as part of a 15-point night of his own, while Dominic Pangonis turned in 10 points.
Wright State connected at 56 percent overall (31-of-55) and from beyond the arc (9-of-16), hitting seven three-pointers in the opening half, while defensively the Raiders held Oakland to 38 percent overall shooting (23-of-60) with five three-pointers (5-21, 24 percent).
Brody Robinson had 27 points for Oakland, who also saw Tuburu Naivalurua score 18 and Michael Houge finish with a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double in the loss for the visitors.
