Women’s Basketball Readies for First #HLWBB Road Test at Purdue Fort Wayne

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (5-5) will hit the road on Sunday, December 7, for its first 2025-26 road test of the Horizon League Women's Basketball season at Purdue Fort Wayne. Tip-off in the Gates Sports Center is slated for 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
Purdue Fort Wayne enters Sunday's contest at 5-4 on the season, and 1-0 in Horizon League play. The Mastodons also boast a 3-0 home record, highlighted by a 68-67 win over the Purdue Boilermakers on November 12. Purdue Fort Wayne is 45-21 at home under head coach Maria Marchesano and 30-6 over the last three seasons.
Three Mastodons average double-digit points, led by Alana Nelson's 15.3 points per game and followed by Jordan Reid with 12.2 and Lili Krasovec with 10.3. Of all players currently at the Division I level, Alana Nelson has the most career points when counting all levels of play. Nelson has scored 2,407 points in her six years of college basketball at Northwood (2), Spring Arbor (3), and Purdue Fort Wayne (1). Rylee Bess is shooting 48.6 percent from beyond the arc this season, which leads the Horizon League and is 21st nationally. Jordan Reid is averaging 2.7 steals per game, ranking second in the Horizon League and in the top 40 nationally.
HISTORY VS. PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Sunday's game will mark the 25th all-time meeting between Wright State and Purdue Fort Wayne, a series the Mastodons lead 13-11. Purdue Fort Wayne holds a 10-2 home record in the series. The two teams last met in the Horizon League Championship quarterfinal a year ago, with the Mastodons coming out on top 64-50.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders mounted a fourth-quarter comeback to take down Oakland 61-57 on Wednesday night in the Nutter Center. With the win, the Raiders kick off Horizon League play in the win column for the first time since the 2023-24 season.
Claire Henson led the Raiders with 17 points and 10 rebounds en route to her third double-double of the season. Olivia Brown led Wright State with three assists. Abbie Riddle scored a season-high eight points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.
Wright State finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run to finish out the first quarter with a two-point lead. Oakland would take the lead before halftime, leading 28-22 heading into the locker room.
The Golden Grizzlies would extend their lead out to eight at the end of the third quarter before the Raiders would embark on a fourth-quarter comeback.
Wright State kicked off the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run with five points each from Henson and Olivia Brown and a layup from Grace Okih. Riddle hit a big three-pointer to extend the Wright State lead to two possessions with 21 seconds to play. The two squads exchanged free throws in the final seconds as the Raiders held their four-point lead to the final whistle.
HORIZON LEAGUE RANKS
Wright State features the Horizon League's most potent offense, leading the league with 734 points and scoring a second-best 73.4 points per game. The Raiders are getting it done from beyond the three-point line, shooting a league-best 33.9% and knocking down 8.8 three-pointers per game, followed by Northern Kentucky at 7.7 per game.

Wright State is not only the best three-point shooting team in the Horizon League but is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country. The Raiders are 39th in the country in three-pointers made per game with 8.6 while shooting 33.9%, a mark that is 91st in Division one. Wright State does this while attempting the 43rd most in the nation, attempting 86 across its first 10 games.
BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 12.7 points, 2.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game across her first ten games in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio native is shooting an impressive 41.6% from the floor, 31.7% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.4 steals per game. Williams is eighth in the Horizon League in points per game (12.7), fourth in field goal percentage (41.6%), and third in steals per game (2.4). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Senior Claire Henson has been a double-double machine for the Raiders this season. The senior has a team and conference high three double-doubles and is just four behind the NCAA lead of seven. Henson recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb.), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.). Chloe Chard Peloquin recorded the only other double-double for the Raiders in the season opener against Butler (15 pts. and 11 rebs.).
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 44.8% from beyond the arc, which is a team best and second in the conference. Nationally, Sagester is tied for twentieth in three-pointers made with 26 and tied for sixty-fifth in three-pointers per game with 2.6, both marks top the Horizon League. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in six of the Raiders' ten games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 84 rebounds across the team's first ten games. Henson is second in the Horizon League with 8.4 rebounds per game, and Henson grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Ohio on November 22, topping her previous high of 12 against Bellarmine earlier this season. The senior has grabbed eight or more rebounds in seven of Wright State's 10 games.
RECORD-BREAKING HOME OPENER
The Raiders set a new program best for points scored in a single game with 122 points. Their first time eclipsing 100 points since November 10, 2017, against Northwestern (OH).
