Paige Sets Career High in Strikeouts as Raiders Fall to No. 24 Ole Miss

OXFORD, Mississippi – The Wright State baseball team fell to #24 Ole Miss 9-1 in the series opener on Friday evening. The series will continue Saturday evening at 5 p.m. The game will stream on SEC Network+ and have live stats provided.

Wright State (3-4) recorded one run on six hits, drawing eight walks while striking out 14 times. Conlan Daniel led the team with two hits, both doubles. Nate Manley added the third extra base hit with a double in the sixth. Cam Gilkerson, Gus Gregory, and Boston Smith each had one hit on the day.

Wright State's only run came in the seventh inning. Gilkerson singled through the left side, moved to third on a double, and scored when Dan Thomas reached on a second baseman's fielding error.

Wright State reached base four times in the first three innings. Smith was walked in the first, and again in the third following a Daniel double and JP Peltier walk. Hunter Warren and Daniel were walked in the fourth and fifth, respectively.

WSU left two on base in the sixth, as Warren was hit by a pitch, advancing to third on a double by Manley. After Gilkerson scored in the seventh, Warren reached base on balls again. In the eighth, Will Cook reached on a walk, followed by Gilkerson reaching on a fielder's choice. Wright State loaded the bases in the ninth after Thomas walked and advanced to second on a Smith infield single. Both advanced on a Gregory infield single, but the Raiders couldn't capitalize, falling 9-1.

Starter Griffen Paige (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits over three innings. He struck out a career-high eight while walking two.

The Rebels jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning. Ole Miss opened the day scoring on an RBI-double in the first, followed by another in the third. Judd Utermark notably put a three-run homer deep into left field in the third, 5-0. The Rebels extended their lead to 9-0 by the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and on a two-RBI double in the sixth. Ole Miss capped its scoring with an RBI double in the sixth.

Ole Miss (8-1) finished with nine runs on 12 hits with four walks and 12 strikeouts. Ryan Moerman led the team with three hits for three RBI in five at-bats. Ole Miss starter Hunter Elliot (3-0) earned the win, throwing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.
