Raiders tally first Top 10 finish of the spring

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – The Wright State golf team tallied its first Top 10 finish of the spring season on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders finished tied for sixth as a group at the Peoples Golf Championship at Sea Palms Resort, with Adam Horn and Brock Rumpke leading the individually as both finished tied for 16th.

Tied for fifth entering the final round, the Raiders carded a 290 team score on Saturday to finish six-over for the tournament in a tie for sixth with Francis Marion and Richmond. Wright State was a shot back of fifth-place Xavier and three behind Villanova in fourth. UNC Greensboro won the event at 21-under as a group, while second-place Davidson was also under par at five-under and Drexel was third at even par for the tournament. Individually, Drexel's Drue Nicholas took home top honors with his 12-under final card.

For the Raiders, Rumpke carded a two-under final round 69 with four birdies, the best Wright State round of the day as he jumped up from a tie for 43rd entering his final 18 holes to finish at one-over for the tournament. Horn finished at one-over as well, using three birdies on the way to his final round one-under 70 after he began the final round tied for 35th.

Andrew Flynn finished tied for 29th a couple shots back at three-over for the tournament, finishing action on Saturday with a five-over 76 despite three back-nine birdies, while Timmy Hollenbeck carded a final round four-over 75 to finish tied for 49th at six-over. Shane Ochs rounded out the Raider lineup in a tie for 64th at eight-over for the tournament, turning in a six-over final round 77.

The Raiders also had a pair of players competing as individuals away from the team scoring, with Ali Berker finishing in a tie for 29th with Flynn following a five-birdie, one-under final round 70, while Ian Asch carded a two-over 73 in his final round to finish at 13-over in a tie for 85th.

Wright State is back on the action on the coast again on March 24 and 25, this time in North Carolina as part of the Seahawk Intercollegiate at Cape Fear Country Club in the Wilmington area.
