Heilman Throws Seven Innings as Raiders Fall in Series Finale at NC State

Box Score RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Wright State baseball team ended its series at NC State with a 3-0 loss to the Wolfpack. The Raiders will return to Nischwitz Stadium on Tuesday, March 11 to take on Kent State at 3 p.m. Fans can keep up with the game in person with free admission, or virtually via live stats.
 
Wright State (4-9) ended the day with four hits and one walk. Four Raiders– Luke Arnold, Patrick Fultz, JP Peltier, and Boston Smith– had a hit apiece, with Peltier adding WSU's only extra-base hit, a double in the third.
 
The first three innings were scoreless as Wright State reached base three times while limiting NC State to just one hit. Smith drew a walk in the first to give the Raiders their first baserunner. WSU put two on base in the third, as Arnold put up a single through the left side and Peltier doubled down the left field line. Fultz had a single to left field in the fourth, while Smith added the final Wright State hit with a single through the right side in the sixth.
 
Jarrett Heilman (0-3) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits. Heilman's seven-inning outing was the longest by any Raider this season; he struck out four batters and issued no walks. Garrett Peters closed the day, allowing one run with no hits or walks, striking out one batter.
 
NC State (11-5) finished with three runs on four hits against their five strikeouts. Matt Heavner was the first to get on base for NC State, putting a single up the middle in the third. Chris McHugh opened scoring for the Wolfpack in the fourth, following Josh Hogue's double to left field with a two-run homer. Jet Gilliam recorded NC State's final hit with an infield single to third, as Wright State held them hitless for the remainder of the game. NC State added the final run of the day in the eighth, scoring an unearned run on a sacrifice fly after the eventual scoring runner struck out but reached on a passed ball, then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error.
 
Ryan Marohn (3-1) earned the shutout win after pitching all nine innings, allowing no runs on four hits with one walk and a career-high 14 strikeouts.
