Hunter Warren Named Freshman of the Year, Raiders Collect 16 All-League Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – The Wright State baseball team earned a league-high 16 Horizon League honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Headlining the Raiders' honors were Freshman of the Year Hunter Warren and Head Coach Alex Sogard, who earned his fifth Coach of the Year award– extending his program record.

Five players– Cam Allen, Braylen Blomquist, JP Peltier, Boston Smith, and Hunter Warren– were named to the All-League First Team, and four– Luke Arnold, Cam Gilkerson, Gus Greogry, and Max Whitesell– earned All-League Second Team honors. Blomquist, Gilkerson, and Warren each received additional recognition by being named to the All-Freshman Team alongside J.J. Thompson and Malachi Paplanus.

The Raiders' 16 All-League selections set a new program record, surpassing the previous mark of 15 set in 2015, and matched the Horizon League record set by Valparaiso in 2012.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Hunter Warren

Warren has started all 52 games for the Raiders this season. He ranks second in the league in hits (74) and hits per game (1.48), and fourth in batting average (.356). The Moline, Illinois, native is tied for second in league-only hits (47) and ranks among the top 10 in league-only batting average (.367), on-base percentage (.468), hit by pitch (7), and runs scored (40).
 
ALL-LEAGUE FIRST TEAM
Cam Allen

A sophomore right-handed pitcher, Allen has appeared in 14 games, making 11 starts. He owns a 6–3 record, tied for the second-most wins in the Horizon League. His 5.96 ERA ranks fifth in the conference, while his 54 hits and 37 runs allowed are both league lows. The Akron, Ohio, native is third in the league with 20 batters struck out looking. He was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week after tossing six scoreless innings and striking out 10 in a win at Oakland. This marks Allen's third career All-League honor; he was named to the Second Team and All-Freshman Team in 2024.

Braylen Blomquist
A true freshman, Blomquist earns his first All-League honors after playing in 42 games, starting in 37. The second baseman is batting .331 with 49 hits, including five triples– leading the league and ranking 16th nationally. He notably hit triples in back-to-back games at Oakland. The St. Clairsville, Ohio, native posted a .384 average in league-only games, ranking fifth in the conference.

JP Peltier
Peltier collects his first All-League honors after appearing in 51 games, making 50 starts. He is batting .315 on the season with 62 hits, tied for eighth in the league, and ranks second in the HL in RBI (61). His 18 home runs rank third in the league and 32nd nationally. The Vandalia, Ohio, native also ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.668), seventh in OPS (1.070), and fifth in stolen bases (20). In league-only play, he is third in slugging (.752), second in RBIs (42), and third in home runs (11). Peltier was named HL Batter of the Week on March 18 and earned Joe Nuxhall Classic MVP honors after hitting a walk-off homer against Xavier.

Boston Smith
Smith, a First Team selection for the first time, was previously named to the Second Team in 2024. The Arcanum, Ohio, native played and started in 50 games, batting .324 with 58 hits, including 21 home runs– second-most in the league and seventh nationally. He ranks second nationally in home runs per game (0.42). Smith's 49 walks lead the league, and his 1.230 OPS and 60 RBIs are both third-best in the conference. He leads the league in league-only slugging (.932), on-base percentage (.545), OPS (1.477), home runs (16), and RBIs (43). He was named HL Batter of the Week– once during the opening week and again on May 13.

Hunter Warren
In addition to Freshman of the Year, Warren earned First Team honors. He started all 52 games, ranking second in the league in hits (74) and hits per game (1.48), and fourth in batting average (.356). He also ranked among the league's top 10 in multiple league-only categories: hits (47, tied for second), batting average (.367), on-base percentage (.468), hit by pitch (7), and runs scored (40).

ALL-LEAGUE SECOND TEAM
Luke Arnold

A senior shortstop, Arnold started all 49 games and batted .261 with 43 hits, including eight doubles, one triple, and five home runs. The Lebanon, Ohio, native ranks third in the league in sacrifice flies (6) and is tied for first in league-only sacrifice flies (4). This is Arnold's first career All-League honor.

Cam Gilkerson
A redshirt freshman, Gilkerson appeared in 49 games, starting 48. He hit .326 with 58 hits, 12 doubles, a triple, and 13 home runs, tied for sixth in the league. His 51 RBI are tied for seventh, and his .638 slugging percentage ranks fifth in the HL. He is third in the league in league-only RBIs (37). The Hilliard, Ohio, native was named HL Batter of the Week after going 9-for-13 (.692) with a double, two home runs, and nine RBIs in a weekend series at Youngstown State.

Gus Gregory
Gregory, from Strongsville, Ohio, appeared in 36 games and made 31 starts. He is tied for second in the league in batting average (.382), and ranks in the top 10 in slugging (.603), on-base percentage (.461), and OPS (1.064). In league-only play, Gregory hit .402 (fourth in HL), ranked third in doubles (12), and tied for fourth in RBI (36). He drove in a program-record 11 RBIs in a single game at Oakland—second-most in the nation this season—while going 5-for-6 with two doubles and his first career grand slam, earning HL Batter of the Week honors.

Max Whitesell
Whitesell earns Second Team recognition in his debut season with the Raiders. The Dayton, Ohio, native made 19 relief appearances, posting a team-best 3.22 ERA and a 3–0 record. Over 22.1 innings pitched, he recorded 24 strikeouts (eight looking) while walking just 13 batters.

Braylen Blomquist

A right-handed pitcher from Huntley, Illinois, Paplanus appeared in 18 games with one start, totaling 27.2 innings. He posted a 1–1 record, struck out 31 batters, seven looking, and held opponents to a .180 batting average.

J.J. Thompson
A left-handed pitcher from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Thompson made 21 relief appearances. He holds a 2–0 record with 35.0 innings pitched and 27 strikeouts, including 10 looking.
