DAYTON – Wright State baseball stays alive in the Horizon League Championship as senior lefthanded-pitcher Garrett Peters threw his first career complete game in an 18-1 win over Northern Kentucky on Friday night. The Raiders will face Milwaukee in the championship game Saturday at noon, with an if-necessary game to follow.
Â
Wright State exploded for 11 runs over the first two innings, starting with an RBI double by Gus Gregory. JP Peltier followed with a two-run homer down the left field line, driving in Gregory. In the second, Patrick Fultz opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Peltier followed by going back-to-back on homers with a three-run no-doubter to left-center. Luke Arnold added an RBI single to right-center, bringing in Braylen Blomquist and moving Boston Smith to third. With Conlan Daniel at the plate, Arnold stole second and advanced to third while Smith scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Daniel then laced a two-RBI single into right field to push WSU into double digits at 11–0.
Â
NKU recorded its only hit of the night in the third—a solo home run to left-center. But the Raiders responded quickly, as Arnold knocked an RBI single through the left side in the fourth to score Blomquist.
Â
WSU tacked on six more runs across the sixth and seventh innings. Arnold reached on a throwing error in the sixth, scoring Smith and Blomquist and advancing to third. Daniel followed with an RBI single through the right side, plating Arnold. In the seventh, Arnold continued his night with a two-RBI double to left field, and Cam Gilkerson capped the scoring with a triple to center, bringing Arnold home.
Â
Peters moves to 5-0 on the season after throwing all nine innings and striking out 11 batters.
