Women’s Basketball Travels to Take on Cleveland State Wednesday

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (6-10, 2-3 HL) will travel up north for its first Horizon League road test of 2026 at Cleveland State Wednesday night. Tip-off in Cleveland is slated for 7 p.m.

Cleveland State enters Wednesday night's game at 12-5 on the season, and 2-4 in Horizon League play, with wins over Oakland and Northern Kentucky. The Vikings feature an 8-1 home record, winning their first eight games before falling to Youngstown State on December 29. Cleveland State lost both legs of its Wisconsin road trip last weekend, falling to Green Bay 55-58 on Friday before losing to Milwaukee on Sunday 58-66.
Graduate Student, Izabella Zingaro, powers the Cleveland State offense and currently ranks sixth among Division I players with a .650 field goal percentage on the year. Zingaro, who has been perfect from the field twice this season, leads all league players in the category while also ranking second in the #HLWBB standings with a .824 free throw percentage.
Redshirt junior Jada Leonard leads the Horizon League and ranks sixth nationally with 56 steals on the year. Leonard, who has recorded at least one takeaway in every game this season, is averaging 3.3 steals per game
HISTORY VS. CLEVELAND STATE
Wednesday's game will mark the 90th all-time meeting between Wright State and Cleveland State, a series the Raiders trail 42-47. Cleveland State has won the last eight games in a row; the Raiders last beat the Vikings in the 2021 Horizon League championship semifinal.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders opened the new year with a big win in Horizon League play over Detroit Mercy, 82-71.
Breezie Williams was all over the court for the Raiders on Friday night. The senior led all players with 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting, coming up one point short of her career-high she scored at Tennessee State earlier this season. The game marks her fourth 20+ point performance and second in as many games, following her 20-point effort Tuesday night against Green Bay. Williams also led the Raiders in rebounds (6), assists (3), and steals (6). Abbie Riddle finished with double-digit points for the third consecutive game, scoring 14 points on Friday night.
The two teams exchanged early buckets before Wright State finished the first quarter on a 10-1 run to jump out to a five-point lead. The Raiders didn't take their foot off the gas to start the second, going on a quick 5-0 run when Rylee Sagester hit a deep three-pointer, and then on the defensive end, Williams poked the ball free and got an easy transition layup. The Raiders went into the locker room at halftime with a nine-point lead, led by Lauren Scott with nine points.
Detroit Mercy came out of the halftime break on fire, scoring 26 points in the third quarter to erase Wright State's lead and tie the game at 56 entering the fourth quarter.
Wright State took back control of the game in the fourth quarter, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 12-of-13 from the free throw line to build up an 11-point advantage at the final whistle.
Jasmine Edwards led Detroit Mercy with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting and knocked down seven of her 11 free throw attempts. Nisea Burrell led the Titans with nine rebounds and two assists.

BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 12.6 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game across her first 16 games in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio, native is shooting 40.6% from the floor and 30.6% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.3 steals per game. Williams is seventh in the Horizon League in points per game (12.6) and third in steals per game (2.3). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds.

Redshirt sophomore Abbie Riddle has emerged as a key contributor for the Raiders in conference play, starting the last five games against Canisius, Youngstown State, Kentucky, Green Bay, and Detroit Mercy. Riddle turned in three straight double-digit scoring outings against Kentucky and Green Bay. The Baltimore, Ohio native scored 10 points in just eight minutes on December 19 at Kentucky, shooting 4-5 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc. She followed up her performance in Lexington with a career night in the Nutter Center on December 29, scoring 15 points on 6-9 shooting and knocking down a pair of three-pointers. She followed up her career night with 14 points against Detroit Mercy on January 2.
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 41.8% from beyond the arc, which is a team best and second in the Horizon League. Sagester's 33 three-pointers sit her at third in the Horizon League standings above Youngstown State's Casey Santoro. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in nine of the Raiders' 16 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CLAIRE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 111 rebounds so far this season. Henson is third in the Horizon League with 6.9 rebounds per game. The senior grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Ohio on November 22, topping her previous high of 12 against Bellarmine earlier this season. The senior has grabbed eight or more rebounds in eight of Wright State's 15 games.
