Â
On Friday, the Raiders closed the opening half on a 15-3 run to take an 11-point lead into the locker room after they shot 57 percent over the first 20 minutes, pushing the margin to 19 points at the start of the second half before Detroit Mercy (6-9, 3-3 Horizon) began chipping away.
Â
Despite the hosts continual push, Wright State never trailed in the final 20 minutes. Detroit Mercy got the margin down to two possessions on multiple occasions, but never got closer than four points until the final 30 seconds when they cut the Raider lead to two three times in that stretch. Wright State, who was 23-of-28 at the free throw line, missed the second of two free throws with two seconds remaining up two, but Detroit Mercy was unable to even get a heave shot off before the buzzer as the Raiders survived.
Â
Wright State's final line at the free throw stripe – 23-of-28 – marked the Raiders' most field goals made and attempted since going 26-of-34 in a 30-point win at Robert Morris in February 2024. The Raiders were also 32-of-38 at the stripe earlier that season in January 2024 at Cleveland State, albeit that game was an overtime win.
Â
