DADE CITY, FL – The Wright State golf team opened its spring schedule with a sixth-place team finish, while Shane Ochs grabbed the individual title Tuesday at the Lake Jovita Invitational in Florida.
Ochs, who began his final 18 holes two shots back of the 36-hole individual leader, was nearly flawless on Tuesday, recording seven birdies over his final round with just one bogey on the way to a six-under 66. The low round pushed Ochs to a two-shot individual win over Richmond's Carson Baez, who was two-under on Tuesday after beginning the day in the lead.
Wright State was four-under as a group on Tuesday to finish sixth as a group at seven-under. CJ Scohy finished 24th at one-under for the tournament after a final round even par 72 that featured three birdies and three bogeys. Jack Ward, playing as an independent, moved up one spot to finish 46th overall at five-over after a final round 74 with an eagle on the par five ninth hole, with Ian Asch carding a final round 80 to finish 58th. Kye Fisher had a two-over final round to finish eight-over overall in 66th while Timmy Hollenbeck shot an even par 72 on Tuesday to finish 71st at nine-over for the tournament.
Wright State is back in action next week in Texas, traveling to Laredo for the Border Olympics on February 16 and 17.
