Raiders Take Down Mastodons Behind Williams’ Career Night

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team got a big 70-67 win over Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday night in the Nutter Center.
Wright State (7-17, 3-10 HL) will remain at home as they welcome IU Indy into the Nutter Center Saturday afternoon. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m., and the first 500 fans through the door will receive a Wright State/Pepsi Bluetooth speaker.
It was the Breezie Williams show Thursday night. The senior recorded a new career-high 28 points on 11-13 shooting (85%) and a career best 5-5 from three-point range. Williams also led the Raiders in assists (5) and was tied with Claire Henson for the team-lead in rebounds (8). Henson joined Williams in double figures with 12 points of her own. Lauren Scott was the third Raider in double digits, finishing with 11 points.
The Raiders started hot in the first quarter, connecting on eight of their first 11 shots, including a three-pointer and a pair of free throws, to outpace the Mastodons 19-15 in the 10 minutes.
Wright State would keep its foot on the gas in the second quarter, outscoring Purdue Fort Wayne by five to build a nine-point lead going into the locker room at halftime. Williams led all players at the break with 19 first-half points on an impressive 88% shooting from the floor.
Purdue Fort Wayne would chip into the Wright State lead in the second half, but the Raiders would keep pace and keep the Mastodons in the review mirror. The Raiders knocked down seven three-pointers in the second half, with three different Raiders connecting on multiple shots from downtown. Williams led the bunch with three shots from beyond the arc, including one from the logo to beat the shot clock. Scott and Rylee Sagester also each hit a pair of three-pointers.
Jordan Reid led three Mastodons in double digits with 19 points, followed by Alana Nelson with 18 points, and Lili Krasovec with 14 points. Nelson also finished with a team-high eight rebounds.
In the box score, Wright State led Purdue Fort Wayne in total rebounds (37-36), defensive rebounds (32-18), and bench points (12-7). But trailed the Mastodons in points in the paint (18-46), second chance points (3-6), and fast break points (6-12).
