Buies Creek, N.C.- The Wright State baseball team picked up a big 3-1 win over Campbell on Sunday to secure its first series win of 2026.
Â
Wright State (4-5) will return home to open the 2026 Joe Nuxhall Classic against Miami (OH) on Tuesday, March 3. First pitch at Nischwitz Stadium is slated for 3 p.m.
Â
The Raiders got on the board in the top of the first inning for the second day in a row when Cy Turner sliced a two-run triple off the wall in left center to drive in Gus Gregory and Andrew Duncan.
Â
Warren Hartzell got the start on the mound for the Raiders and turned in his best outing of the season so far, pitching four scoreless frames with a career-high seven strikeouts. Campbell threatened in the bottom of the first. Jonah Oster stepped up with a runner on second and served a single out into centerfield, but the Camel base runner tested the arm of Duncan, who threw a seed to Nate Manley at the plate to cut down the runner at home and end the first inning.
Â
Hartzell allowed just one more base runner in his remaining three innings, striking out a pair of Camels in the second and fourth while striking out the side in the bottom of the third.
Â
Chet Lax got the win for the Raiders, pitching 2.2 innings while allowing one run on four hits. The win in Lax's second of the week after getting the win over Kent State on Wednesday and third on the season.
Â
Braylen Blomquist gave the Raiders a run of insurance with a solo shot in the top of the seventh. Blomquist sent a ball to the opposite field that hit the top of the wall and bounced on the other side for his first homer of the season. Campbell would answer back in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot of their own to cut the deficit back to two.
Â
Cooper Gilkerson got the ball from Lax and pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball before turning the ball over to the closer, Malachi Paplanus. The right-hander closed the door in the bottom of the ninth to secure his third save of the season and the series win for the Raiders.
