DAYTON, OH- The Wright State baseball team got a home run from Andrew Duncan, but fell to Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) 3-2 in the series final Sunday afternoon.
Â
Wright State (5-12) will be back in action Tuesday afternoon at Kent State. First pitch in Northeast Ohio is currently slated for 3 p.m.
Â
Chet Lax got the start on the mound for the Raiders and delivered another quality start. The left-hander twirled six innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four Redhawks.
Â
SEMO opened the scoring for the third day in a row, bringing in a run in the top of the second. Mikey Rocha served a single out to center that scored Andrew Ramirez from second base.
Â
Duncan got the Raiders on the board in the bottom of the fourth when he launched a solo shot over the wall in left. The homer is Duncan's first of the season and first in a Wright State uniform.
Â
Lax would turn the ball over to Michael Bilo in the seventh. The right-hander pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out two Redhawks.
Â
SEMO would regain the lead in the top of the ninth, bringing home two runs on Malachi Paplanus.
Â
Wright State would rally in the bottom of the ninth but would ultimately come up just short. Brett Denby led off the inning with a six-pitch walk and would advance up to second two batters later on a Zac Butler single. Nate Manley would step in and pitch hit in the inning and drive home Denby on an RBI double into the gap in left-center. But the Redhawk closer was able to avoid extra innings, recording the next two outs without any damage.
