KNOXVILLE, TN- The Wright State baseball team fell in walk-off fashion 3-4 to Tennessee Friday night in the series opener.
Wright State (4-7) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against Tennessee for the second game of the three-game set. Due to inclement weather, the first pitch has been moved up to 3 p.m.
The Raiders would get on the board first, scoring in the top of the first. Following a leadoff single by Andrew Duncan, Hunter Warren roped a double up the left field line that would score Duncan from first base.
Wright State would double its lead in the top of the third in a very similar fashion. Duncan served a single out to left field and then stole second base just one pitch later. Warren then stepped up and sent a single of his own out to left field, scoring Duncan to make it 2-0 Raiders.
Tennessee would answer right back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Wright State lead back to one.
Patrick Fultz would get the Raiders' lead back to two, launching a solo shot over the wall in right in the top of the fourth inning. The homer is Fultz's third on the season.
Cam Allen got the start on the mound for Wright State and delivered his best outing of the season so far. The right-hander pitched four innings and allowed just one run on two hits while striking out one Volunteer.
Tennessee would tie the game up with single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings to make it 3-3 entering the final two frames.
The Volunteers would walk the Raiders off with a pair of hits in the bottom of the ninth to take the series opener 4-3.
