Wright State (17-18, 11-1 HL) will be back in action Sunday afternoon for its series finale with the Sycamores. First pitch at Nischwitz Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
Â
The Raiders and Sycamores played a marathon of a series opener spanning across 14 innings and five hours.
Â
Indiana State would open the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single before the Raiders responded and took the lead with back-to-back RBI singles off the bats of JP Peltier and Keegan Holmstrom.
Â
The Sycamores would bring across three runs in the top of the fourth to take a two-run lead. Gus Gregory would hit his third homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Indiana State lead to 4-3.
Â
Wright State and Indiana State would exchange single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings to keep the game in reach for the Raiders. Braylen Blomquist would come in to score on an RBI groundout in the seventh, and Falkenstein would come in to score in the eighth on another groundout.
Â
Brett Denby would tie the game for the Raiders in the bottom of the ninth thanks to an error by the Sycamores' defense. Denby would advance to third on a sacrifice fly by Cam Gilkerson and would come in to score when the Indiana State second baseman threw the ball over the catcher.
Â
After three scoreless frames, the two squads once again exchanged solo tallies in the 13th inning. Cy Turner would bring the lone run in for the Raiders in the bottom of the 13th, launching a solo shot over the wall in left field.
Indiana State would bring home the winning run in the top of the 14th with an RBI single up the middle, and Wright State was unable to answer in the bottom half of the frame.
Â
Cam Allen got the start in game one and pitched 3.2 innings, striking out four batters before turning the ball over to the Raider bullpen. Brody Papay, Cooper Gilkerson, Cooper Ashby, Michael Zielinski, Michael Bilo, and Matthew Johnson all saw action out of the bullpen, combining for eight strikeouts, led by three from Bilo.
Â
After roughly a 45-minute break, the Raiders and Sycamores would kick off game two of the day.
Â
After a pair of shutout innings to open game two, the two teams would exchange runs in the third inning. Turner was a one-man wrecking crew for the Raiders in the bottom of the inning, reaching base on a triple before coming home to score on a wild pitch.
Â
The Raiders took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Patrick Fultz drove home Gregory on a sacrifice fly to center before Turner served his second triple of the day over the right fielder and scored Zac Butler from first base.
Â
Indiana State would regain the lead with back-to-back jacks in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The Sycamores would add two more runs of insurance in the top of the ninth before slamming the door in the bottom half to secure the series win.
Â
Griffen Paige started game two for the Raiders, pitching six innings, allowing four runs while recording a career-high 10 strikeouts. Abe Crall followed Paige out of the bullpen, working in and out of trouble before turning the ball over to Evan Boeckmann and Ashby for the final two frames.
