HISTORY VS. INDIANA STATE
The Raiders and Sycamores have met 13 times, coming into this weekend's series, a series that Wright State trails 3-10 all-time. The two teams last met in the Terre Haute Regional, when the Raiders fell to No. 14 Indiana State 5-6.
Â
SCOUTING THE SYCAMORES
Indiana State enters the weekend at 18-19 on the season and 8-4 in conference play. The Sycamores are coming off a 17-12 loss against Indiana in the midweek, but have won each of their last four weekend series.
Â
Mason Roell leads the Indiana State offense at the dish, leading the team in batting average (.418), hits (33), runs scored (30), and RBIs (27). Roell is also tied for second on the team in home runs (8), only behind Carter Beck.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders got home runs from JP Peltier and Cy Turner, but inevitably fell to Dayton 5-9 Wednesday night at Day Air Ballpark.
Â
Wright State got on the board first, bringing across a single tally in the top of the first. Keegan Holmstrom roped a single through the right side of the infield that scored Hunter Warren from third.
Â
Dayton would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the second and then take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Grayson Carpenter came in to score on a passed ball.
Â
Peltier would regain the lead for the Raiders with a two-run opposite field blast in the top of the fifth inning. The junior parked his seventh home run over the wall in right-center to give Wright State a 3-2 lead.
Â
Dayton would once again answer the Raiders with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to back-to-back jacks off the bats of Bobby Stang and Dyrenson Wouters. Stand parked a two-run shot over the wall in centerfield before Woulters followed it up with a solo shot over the wall in left center.
Â
The Flyers would get an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth before adding three more runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Â
Turner launched his third homer of the season in the top of the ninth, parking it over the wall in right-center.
#HLBASE BATTER OF THE WEEK
Wright State infielder Hunter Warren has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, the league office announced Monday
Warren was a force at the top of the Wright State batting order as the Raiders went 3-1 last week, including a sweep of Youngstown State over the weekend. The redshirt sophomore hit to the tune of a .524 batting average and slugged a whopping .905. Warren had 11 hits totaling 19 bases on the week with a pair of homers, while recording a team-high 11 RBIs. The infielder also showcased his speed on the base paths, going a perfect 3-3 in steal attempts.
Warren was especially spectacular in Sunday's sweep-clinching win over the Penguins, recording five hits, with four runs scored and six driven in.
This is the first weekly award of the season for the reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year. Warren is the fourth Raider to be named the Batter of the Week, joining Keegan Holmstrom, JP Peltier, and Cy Turner. It is the fourth straight week a Raider has earned a Horizon League weekly honor, including sweeping the awards the last two weeks.
Â
HOT START TO THE HORIZON LEAGUE
Wright State has once again started conference play hot with an 11-1 record after its first four series against Milwaukee, Oakland, Northern Kentucky, and Youngstown State. This record surpasses what the Raiders did a season ago, a campaign that saw the Raiders go 25-5 in conference play to clinch their seventh consecutive regular-season title.
Â
FLASHING THE LEATHER
Wright State has been one of the best defensive teams in the country in 2026, currently sporting a fielding percentage of 0.983. This ranks the Raiders 9th in the country and first in the Horizon League.
Â
BECAUSE HE GETS ON BASE
Redshirt freshman Keegan Holmstrom has been a professional hitter at the dish in his first season for the Raiders. Holmstrom leads the team and the Horizon League in batting average and on-base percentage; both marks currently rank in the top 50 nationally. His .415 batting average ranks 12th in the country while his .495 on-base percentage places 67th nationally (as of April 13).
Â
DOUBLES MACHINE
JP Peltier has been spraying extra base hits all over the field this season. The junior leads the team and the Horizon League in doubles. His 17 two-baggers also rank him fifth nationally.
Â
SCOUTING THE 2026 SQUAD
The Raidergang returns 20 players from a season ago while adding 19 newcomers (10 transfers and nine true freshmen). The squad consists of five seniors, nine juniors, nine sophomores, and 16 freshmen.
Â
The roster features a strong in-state contingent, with 54% of players (21) from Ohio. But the Raiders also recruit well nationally, with 13 other states being represented in the roster. The other 13 states include California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.
Â
UP NEXT
Wright State will remain at home during the midweek, hosting in-state rival Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch at Nischwitz Stadium is slated for 3 p.m.
