Matthew Reed joins the WSU coaching staff as the Volunteer Assistant after finishing the last five seasons with Marshall University. The Fall of 2018, Reed served as the Director of Operations for Marshall Baseball, where he handled day to day scheduling, travel arrangements, and other administrative duties.Â
In 2013-2015 seasons, Reed spent his time as the primary catcher for the Herd, where he was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. After being sidelined with a back injury during the 2016 season and receiving back surgery, Reed spent his 2017-2018 seasons as a pitcher for the Herd, where he was in the closer role. In 2017, Reed became the first pitcher to lead Marshall in wins and saves since 2005, he finished with a 6-5 record in 24 relief appearances, 38.1 innings with 34 strikeouts. In 2018, Reed led the team in saves and recorded 16 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.Â
Prior to Marshall University, Reed played for Clemson University during the 2013 season under Coach Jack Leggett. That season he served as the mid-week catcher appearing in six games with a .500 BA and two RBI’s before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.Â
Reed received his Bachelors degree in Sports Management/Marketing from Marshall University in 2016.
