Box Score The Wright State volleyball team reached the .500 mark overall and improved to 4-1 in the Horizon League Saturday afternoon with a sweep over the Cleveland State Vikings at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, winning 30-26, 30-26, 31-29.
The Raiders set the tone early by scoring the first 10 points of the match as Lizzy Gunn had two kills and two blocks during that stretch. Cleveland State chipped away and eventually trailed just 22-21 until WSU scored four straight points, including kills by Jenny Schultz, Lindsey Frank and Tara Geegan.
It was the Vikings that had the early margin in game two as they broke out to a 12-5 lead. Following a timeout, however, WSU began its comeback and later tied the game at 22 after a 5-0 burst, three of those coming on kills from Schultz.
Wright State then took advantage of three CSU attack errors and had another Geegan kill to score four straight points in breaking a 24-all tie and go on to the second game win.
Game three featured six lead changes and 10 ties, including at points 27, 28 and 29, before the Raiders wrapped up the match on back-to-back Geegan kills.
For the second straight match, the visitors had a slight kill edge as Cleveland State had 51 to Wright State's 46, but the Raiders countered with an 11-3 block advantage as CSU committed 30 errors to just 18 for WSU.
Schultz posted a double-double of 15 kills and 14 digs to lead the way for the Raiders while Geegan hit .450 in collecting 10 kills. Frank had 36 assists along with 16 digs.
Liz Fazio's double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs paced Cleveland State (13-5, 3-3 Horizon) while Alexis Korovich had one as well of 10 kills and 12 digs. Danielle Siefker added 11 kills.
