Box Score Behind 16 kills from Alisha Kimbro and a double-double effort by Jenny Schultz, the Wright State volleyball team swept the Butler Bulldogs in Horizon League action Friday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, winning 30-22, 30-16, 32-30.
Game was back and forth with eight ties and three lead changes until the Raiders went up for good at 15-14 after a Bulldog service error. The margin, though, was still close at 21-19 until the Raiders tallied four straight points, half of those coming on kills from Kimbro and Tara Geegan.
Wright State then controlled game two, jumping out to a 6-2 advantage and led by as much as 26-11 late after scoring five consecutive points, including kills by Kimbro and Schultz.
Butler had the lead much of game three, leading at one time 25-22, but WSU rallied to tie it at 26 after a Lindsey Frank kill and was up 29-28 following an attack error.
A Raider error and a Susana Henry kill put the Bulldogs back in front 30-29, but Wright State claimed the match by scoring the final three points, including another Kimbro kill and one from Samantha Connor on match point.
WSU outhit Butler .170-.090 and had a 44-35 advantage in kills.
Kimbro paced the Raiders with 16 kills and added eight digs and four service aces while Schultz posted a double-double of 11 kills and a career-high 24 digs. Frank also had a double-double of 30 assists and 10 digs and libero Sarah Poling chipped in 18 digs.
Michelle DeGeeter, Henri and Porshia Allen each had eight kills for Butler (5-12, 0-3 Horizon), with Allen adding 17 digs.
Wright State, now 8-9 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League, returns to action Saturday night as the Raiders travel across town to face the Dayton Flyers at the Frericks Center. Match time is 7:00.
