Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team picked up a key Horizon League road win Thursday night as the Raiders pulled away over the final 10 minutes to record a 78-67 decision over the Cleveland State Vikings at the Wolstein Center.
The game was tied at 10 until WSU went on a 16-2 run over a four-minute span, half of those coming from DaShaun Wood, to go up 26-12 with 6:53 remaining in the first half. The Raiders maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the period and went into the break ahead 37-27.
Cleveland State, however, came out on fire to start the second half as the Vikings outscored Wright State 21-9 over the opening 5:34 to regain the lead at 48-46. A layup and later tip-in by Jordan Pleiman gave the Raiders a brief edge before a Joe Davis jumper tied the game again at 50 with 10:25 to play.
Wright State, though, took control from there as a Todd Brown three put the Raiders ahead to stay and two Wood foul shots and a Scottie Wilson layup made it seven unanswered points. Another Brown triple along with one from Vaughn Duggins and a later Brown dunk extended the WSU margin to 67-57 with 5:19 left.
The Vikings came as close as 72-66 on a Davis layup at the 2:11 mark, but two Pleiman baskets keyed a 6-1 Raider burst to close out the contest.
It was the first win for Wright State on an opponent's home court since a 59-57 decision at St. Bonaventure on December 9.
After shooting a solid 48 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, Wright State was even better in the second half, hitting 16 of 26 shots for 62 percent, including five of six from three-point range, to finish at 54 percent. For the game, the Raiders were seven of 10 from behind the arc, nine of 10 at the foul line and held a 35-28 rebounding advantage.
Four WSU starters scored in double figures, led by Wood's 26 to go with six assists. Brown added 14, all but two coming in the second half, while Pleiman also had 14 along with seven rebounds and Drew Burleson chipped in 11. Duggins dished out seven assists and scored five points while Wilson scored eight off the bench.
J'Nathan Bullock paced Cleveland State (7-13, 1-6 Horizon) with 21 points while Davis and Bahaadar Russell each had 17.
