Box Score The Wright State volleyball team looked to have the momentum after evening the match at one game each, but could not maintain it as #2 seed Cleveland State controlled the final two games at the Horizon League Semifinals Saturday in Milwaukee, defeated the #3 seed Raiders 30-23, 27-30, 30-19, 30-16.
WSU trailed just 22-20 in game one following a Lindsey Frank kill, but CSU scored the next three points and closed the game with an 8-3 run.
Game two was also tight in the late stages until Wright State broke a 20-20 deadlock with four straight points, capped off by back-to-back blocks from Becca Awaa and Lizzy Gunn. The Vikings later answered with a 5-0 burst to make it 29-27, but an Awaa kill ended the game and evened the match at a game apiece.
From there, however, it was all Cleveland State as the Vikings used an 11-3 run to open up game three and a 10-3 burst to go up 20-10 in the fourth game.
CSU finished with a 74-50 kill advantage, including a 35-18 margin the final two games, and outhit the Raiders .286-.151, .329-.067 in games three and four.
Wright State's four seniors all had strong numbers in their final matches as Raiders as Alisha Kimbro posted a double-double of 13 kills and as many digs, Tara Geegan hit .333 with 12 kills, Samantha Connor had eight kills and 15 digs and Frank dished out 39 assists and had eight digs.
Awaa had a near double-double of nine kills and 11 digs to go with five block assists for WSU while Gunn had six block assists and Lexi Leonhard 16 digs.
Amy Benz hit .432 with 19 kills to lead Cleveland State (22-8) while Alexis Korovich recorded a double-double of 19 kills and 23 digs.
Wright State closes its season with a final mark of 14-18.
