Men Drop Overtime Decision to Bradley

Box Score

The Wright State men's basketball team led by four in the final minute of regulation, but the Bradley Braves rallied to force overtime and went on to a 72-65 decision over the Raiders at the Nutter Center Tuesday night.

WSU was in control early, jumping out to a 15-5 advantage following a Troy Tabler jumper with 11:45 remaining in the first half. Bradley, though, closed the period with a 12-2 run, eight of those coming from Andrew Warren, over the final 5:39 to go up 29-26 at the break.

The Braves extended the margin to 37-32 before the Raiders scored nine unanswered points, five by Vaughn Duggins, to go back in front 41-37. WSU later went up 51-42 on a Cooper Land three at the 6:28 mark, only to see Bradley cut the deficit to 54-53 with two Daniel Ruffin foul shots with 2:44 to go in regulation.

The Raiders looked to be in good shape as two John David Gardner foul shots with 45 seconds left made it 57-53, but Warren connected on a three and after Duggins made one of two from the line, Jeremy Crouch made two free throws with 19 seconds left to force overtime.

After the two teams exchanged baskets to start the extra period, Bradley went up for good on a Ruffin three and extended the lead to 68-63 on a Theron Wilson dunk. Layups by Sam Maniscalco and Warren in the final minute put the game out of reach.

Bradley shot 45 percent for the game compared to 39 percent for Wright State and hit 10 of 22 from three-point range while the Raiders were seven of 19. The Braves held a 44-33 rebounding advantage, including 15-11 on the offensive end, which resulted in a 15-7 differential in second-chance points.

Duggins led all scorers with 24 for Wright State, 17 of those coming in the second half, but no other Raider managed more than eight. Scottie Wilson had 12 rebounds and Gardner six assists off the bench.

Warren paced Bradley (7-3) with 23 points, 14 in the first half, while Wilson had a near double-double of 14 points and nine boards.

Wright State, now 3-3 on the season, continues this five-game homestand on Saturday night against the Miami RedHawks. Tip-off is at 7:00.
