Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team sent their four seniors out in style Saturday evening, downing Cal State Fullerton in BracketBusters action at the Nutter Center 77-62.
The Raiders trailed by as many as twelve points in the first half, but outscored the Titans 18-9 over the final eight minutes. The Raiders took their first lead of the half, a two-point advantage, on a Vaughn Duggins three pointer with 54 seconds left.
Fullerton responded with a three of their own as time expired to give them a one point lead heading into the locker room. The 34-33 advantage held by the Titans was the first time the Raiders trailed after twenty minutes of play in a home game since December 16 against Bowling Green.
The Green and Gold shot 50 percent in the first half, nailing five three pointers, but no Raider reached double figures in scoring. Scott Cutley led all scorers in the stanza with 14 points. Each team grabbed 17 rebounds and WSU turned the ball over seven times.
In the second half, Wright State continued their hot shooting and took control of the game early. The Raiders took a one-point lead on a Duggins layup and traded baskets for the next three minutes before claiming the lead for good.
With WSU trailing 40-38, Duggins struck again. The freshman hoisted a three pointer from the wing and drained it to give WSU a one-point lead that they would never relinquish. The basket was the start of a 12-0 run that broke open the game and energized the 9614 fans.
Wright State built their lead to as much as 20 points with 1:49 remaining in the contest and held on to win their 21st game of the season. The 21 wins is the most by a WSU team since the 1989-90 squad and the attendance was the eighth largest in school history.
DaShaun Wood, who moved into second on the Raider all-time scoring list, led the WSU scoring attack with 19 points. It was the 42nd game in a row that Wood has reached double-digits in scoring dating back to last season. Duggins (15), Will Graham (12) and Scottie Wilson (11) all reached double figures in the game.
The Raiders defense held one of the nation's elite offenses to 22 points less than their season average and the 62 points were the second fewest by the Titans this year.
Wright State looks to set a new Division I wins record as they close the regular season on Thursday, February 22, at Youngstown State in Horizon League action starting at 7:00.
