Wright State shot 57 percent in the first half and led 51-29 at the break in rolling to a 76-56 decision over the St. Edward's (TX) Hilltoppers in men's basketball exhibition action at the Nutter Center Monday night.
WSU led the entire way, scoring the first eight points of the contest on a three and layup from Vaughn Duggins and another three by Todd Brown. The margin was 30-21 until the Raiders closed out the first half with a 21-8 run over the final 6:22, a burst that featured seven points each from Gavin Horne and Troy Tabler.
Wright State shot 57 percent the opening 20 minutes and hit 15 of 19 from the foul line compared to 40 percent from the field and seven of 11 at the stripe for the Hilltoppers.
St. Edward's would get no closer than 16 the rest of the way as the Raiders shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and made seven of 11 foul shots.
Wright State shot 54 percent overall and was 22 of 30 from the foul line while St. Edward's shot 40 percent and hit nine of 13 free throws. The Raiders led in points in the paint (34-24), points off of turnovers (21-13), fast break points (10-2) and points off the bench (36-26).
Duggins led a balanced attack for the Raiders with 11 points while Horne added 10 off the bench, Brown nine, Will Graham eight and Cory Cooperwood eight points and eight rebounds. All but one WSU player that saw action scored.
Tylor Carr paced St. Edward's with 16 points off the bench while Taylor Mullenax had 12.
The season opener for Wright State will be this Saturday night, November 15, as the Raiders welcome in the Illinois State Redbirds to the Nutter Center for a 7:00 tip.
