Box Score Wright State held the lead late in regulation and in overtime, but Central Michigan would rally back both times and, on a Robbie Harman three in the final seconds, the Chippewas defeated the Raiders 70-68 in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Rose Arena in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Central Michigan scored the first six points of the contest, only to see Wright State go up 13-10 at the 12:23 mark of the first half on a three by Troy Tabler. The Chippewas broke a 26-26 tie with a 9-3 run, but the Raiders scored the final three points of the half to trail 35-32 at the break.
An 8-0 burst, capped off by a Vaughn Duggins three-point play, gave WSU a 40-38 advantage with 16:41 remaining in regulation and the Raiders appeared to be in control as a N'Gai Evans layup at the 4:07 mark made it 59-49.
That would turn out to be the final points for Wright State in the second half, however, as the Chippewas scored the last 10 points to force overtime, including a Harman three with eight seconds left to tie it.
The Raiders later went up 66-61 in overtime on a Todd Brown dunk and 68-64 on a Cory Cooperwood basket with 1:38 to play, but again Central Michigan would rally for the win, starting with a Jeremy Allen three and Harman's triple to win it.
CMU (2-2) shot 42 percent, including 11 of 28 from three-point range, while Wright State hit for 38 percent, but was just three of 20 from behind the arc. The Raiders connected on 19 of 29 free throws compared to 11 of 14 for the Chippewas, but WSU made just four of seven attempts in overtime.
Cooperwood posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Wright State while Evans had 11 and Duggins and Brown eight each.
Allen paced all scorers with 22 for Central Michigan while Chris Kellermann had 18 and Jacolby Hardiman recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Wright State (0-2) returns to action on Monday against another Mid-American Conference foe as the Raiders host Miami for a 7:00 tip.
