Box Score Wright State won its 11th straight game Wednesday night in dramatic fashion as a Vaughn Duggins jumper with 4.3 seconds left gave the Raiders a 59-58 Horizon League win over the Detroit Titans in the home finale at the Nutter Center.
The WSU lead was just 20-18 after an Eulis Stephens jumper with 6:37 remaining in the first half, but the Raiders responded by scoring the next six points on baskets from Scottie Wilson and Todd Brown and two Cooper Land free throws.
Detroit trimmed the deficit to 26-23 on another Stephens jumper and a Nemanja Jokic three, but a Duggins jumper and two more Land foul shots rounded out the scoring and gave Wright State a 30-23 advantage at the break.
The Raiders hit 11 of 26 shots in the opening 20 minutes for 42 percent while the Titans were nine of 25 for 36 percent.
A steal and dunk from Duggins extended the Wright State lead to 35-27 two minutes into the second half and the Raiders again went up eight at 40-32 on a Troy Tabler three at the 14:22 mark, but Detroit answered with a 7-0 run, including a Jon Goode three.
WSU again built the margin to 48-42 on two Duggins foul shots and a Wilson jumper with 8:34 remaining, only to see the Titans again chip away as a Zach Everingham triple made it 51-50 with six minutes to play.
A Will Graham three made it a four-point game, but back-to-back three from Josh Samarco and Everingham put Detroit in front 56-54 with 1:47 left. Brown connected on a three from the left corner to give the Raiders a one-point edge, but the Titans answered with two Chris Hayes foul shots at the 1:16 mark.
Hayes then forced a steal on Wright State's next possession, but it remained a one-point game as Hayes missed a baseline jumper.
That set the stage for Duggins' game-winner as he took a pass from Graham along the left baseline, drove and banked in a short jumper with 4.3 seconds left.
Detroit had one last chance, but Samarco's despeartion three attempt went off the rim as the game ended.
The shooting percentages were similar as the Raiders hit for 44 percent compared to 42 percent for the Titans, but WSU held a 35-21 rebounding advantage, which led to a 8-2 differential in second-chance points and hit 10 of 12 from the foul line to Detroit's six of seven.
Duggins led all scorers with 19 points while Wilson, in his final home game as a Raider, posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brown had eight points and six boards and Graham added five assists.
Hayes and Everingham each had 14 to pace Detroit (7-19, 3-13 Horizon) while Goode had 11, all in the second half, and Stephens 10.
With the win, the Raiders clinched no worse than a tie for second in the Horizon League standings as WSU leads Cleveland State by two games in the loss column with two to play.
