Men Win 7th Straight at Cleveland State

Box Score

Wright State picked up its seventh straight win and moved into sole possession of second place in the Horizon League standings as the Raiders led wire to wire in defeating the Cleveland State Vikings 55-49 Thursday night at the Wolstein Center.

WSU jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead three minutes into the contest, including threes from Todd Brown and Scottie Wilson, and later went up 15-2 on a layup from Vaughn Duggins and a Cooper Land three, but CSU closed the deficit to one with a 12-0 run of its own.

The Raiders, though, went back up 23-16 thanks in part to threes by Duggins and Brown and maintained at least a five-point advantage the rest of the half before going into the break up 30-24.

Wright State pushed the lead back to 10 twice in the early stages of the second half, the second being 39-29 on a Duggins layup with 13:48 left, but Cleveland State hung close and trimmed the margin to 43-41 on a Joe Davis jumper at the 6:37 mark.

Another Land three, however, started WSU on a 7-0 run and the Vikings could get no closer than five the rest of the way.

The Raiders shot 49 percent for the game and were six of 13 from three-point range compared to 34 percent overall and five of 21 from behind the arc for Cleveland State, who shot only 28 percent from the field the final 20 minutes.

All eight Wright State players that saw action scored, led by Brown and Duggins with 12 each. Will Graham added eight points and dished out seven assists while committing just one turnover and Land chipped in eight points off the bench.

Davis paced Cleveland State (14-10, 7-5 Horizon) with 11 off the bench while D'Aundray Brown and Cedric Jackson each had 10.

Wright State, now 16-6 overall and 8-4 in the Horizon League, wraps up its Northeast Ohio road trip Saturday night at Youngstown State. Tip-off is set for 7:00.
