Box Score It was a tough shooting day for the Wright State men's basketball team Saturday afternoon as the Raiders managed just 11 field goals for the game, four in the first half, in falling to the Cleveland State Vikings 65-46 in Horizon League action at the Wolstein Center.
A Troy Tabler layup drew WSU to within one at 3-2 two minutes into the game, but CSU followed with a six straight points and a 15-3 run overall to go up 18-5 with 12:14 remaining in the first half. The Viking lead grew to as much as 33-15 before the Raiders scored the final five points of the period, four coming from Vaughn Duggins.
Wright State hit only four of 18 shots in the opening 20 minutes, including two of 10 from three-point range, while Cleveland State shot 48 percent from the field overall and was four of 12 from behind the arc.
The Raiders would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way as they shot 27 percent for the contest, three of 20 from three-point range, compared to 44 percent for the Vikings. Both teams had strong foul shooting performances as WSU was 21 of 28 and CSU 23 of 25.
Duggins led the way for Wright State with 14 points, 10 coming in the first half, but no other Raider scored more than seven.
Jeremy Montgomery paced Cleveland State (18-3, 7-2 Horizon) with 17 points, 12 in the first half, while Aaron Pogue had 15 and Norris Cole posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Wright State (13-8, 6-3 Horizon) is right back on the road again next weekend as the Raiders take on Green Bay on Friday, January 28, at 8:00 Eastern followed by Milwaukee on Sunday, January 30, at 2:00 Dayton time.
