Baseball Falls to Texas A&M in Opening Round of NCAA Regionals

The Wright State baseball team fell behind early against #6 Texas A&M and could not recover as the Raiders dropped an 11-0 decision to the Aggies in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals Friday night at Olsen Field in College Station, Texas.
The Raiders posed a threat in the second as Corey Davis singled up the middle and Zach Tanner followed with a hit into left, but came up empty as both Ryan Ashe and Justin Kopale grounded out.
The Aggies opened the scoring with six runs in their half of the second. Adam Smith led off by scorching a one-hopper past Kopale at short and scored on the play as the ball got by left fielder Dan Marsh for an error. An Andrew Collazo bunt single produced the second run and Collazo later scored on a Tyler Naquin double off the fence in right center. Matt Juengel later capped off the inning with a three-run home run just over the fence in left.
Texas A&M (43-18) added another run in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Wright State had one more scoring threat in the sixth as Kyle Mossbarger and Jake Hibberd singled and Tristan Moore walked to load the bases, only to see Davis fly out to deep right center for the final out.
Tanner, last week's Horizon League Tournament MVP, and Hibberd, the Horizon League Player of the Year, led the WSU offense with two hits each. The two hits by Hibberd give him 96 on the season, just one shy of Chris Tuttle's team record, which was set in 2001.
Wright State (36-18) now faces Arizona (36-20), who lost 4-0 to Seton Hall in the other first round game, in an elimination game Saturday at 1:35 Eastern.
