Volleyball Wins in Four Over Chicago State

The Wright State volleyball team hit .254 over the final three sets to defeat Chicago State in four Tuesday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.  The Raiders won the match 17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 28-26.

The Cougars jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set and led the rest of the way as they recorded 15 kills in the set compared to seven for the Raiders.

WSU, though, turned the tables in the second set, taking a 6-1 lead of its own and then hit .333 with 17 kills in winning the third set.

The final set featured eight lead changes and 16 ties, including at points 21-26, until Wright State closed out the match on a Dani Branco kill and a CSU attack error.

Chicago State finished with a 55-51 kill advantage, but WSU finished with a .175-.139 edge in hitting percentage and recorded nine service aces compared to four for the Cougars.

Splinter posted her eighth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 19 digs while Branco came off the bench to tally 14 kills in hitting .333.  Libero Kenzie Egan had 25 digs and setter Ashleigh Lucco added a double-double of 40 assists and 10 digs.

Wright State (2-15) opens Horizon League play this weekend as the Raiders head to Chicago to face Loyola on Friday at 8:00 Eastern followed by UIC on Saturday at 5:00 Dayton time.
