Box Score The Wright State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Butler Tuesday evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs won the match 25-7, 25-16, 25-21.
Butler hit .500 (11/0/22) in the opening set as the Bulldogs scored the first four points and gradually built on the lead the rest of the way. WSU drew to within 10-9 in the second set before a 6-0 run put Butler in control.
In the final set, the Raiders jumped out to an 8-3 lead thanks in part to three Heidi Splinter kills, only to see the Bulldogs score 11 of the next 14 points to take the lead for good. Wright State closed the margin to 19-18 on a Haley Garr service ace before Butler reached match point with a 5-1 burst.
The Bulldogs (7-1) led 40-25 in kills in outhitting WSU .356-.022.
Stephanie Ruffing paced the Raiders with nine kills while Splinter had eight along with 10 digs.
Wright State (3-7) opens the home portion of its schedule this weekend by hosting the Wright State Invitational Presented by Holiday Inn Friday and Saturday at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. On Friday, the Raiders take on Robert Morris at 6:30 while on Saturday, WSU faces Murray State at noon followed by Indiana State at 5:30. All six matches in the tournament will be video streamed through the Horizon League Network.
