Box Score The Wright State baseball team led 5-2 after an inning and 7-4 heading to the eighth, only to see Kent State score the final five runs of the game for a 9-7 decision in 12 innings Wednesday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
Kent State opened the scoring in the first on a two-run home run by Justin Wagler before the Raiders answered with five in their half of the inning. After Brad Macciocchi walked and Joe Ford reached on an infield single, both runners moved up on an Andrew McCafferty ground out and scored as Michael Timm singled up the middle.
Kieston Greene followed with a hit to set the stage for Sean Murphy as the freshman catcher connected on his second home run of the season, a three-run blast to left center.
The Golden Flashes cut the deficit to 5-4 with single runs in the second and fifth, but WSU pushed the advantage back up to three at 7-4 with two in the sixth. Greene singled in Timm, who led off with a double, and after going to third on a Murphy bunt and a wild pitch, scored on John Brodner's grounder to short.
It stayed that way until Kent State tied it with three in the eighth. Wright State had its leadoff batter reach in both the eighth and ninth, but couldn't push a run across.
KSU broke the deadlock with two in the 12th and held on for the win despite the Raiders having the tying runs in scoring position in the bottom of the frame.
Timm had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored to pace the WSU offense while Greene and Brodner had two hits each.
Wright State (12-11) looks to improve on its 6-0 Horizon League record this weekend as the Raiders travel to Niles, Ohio, to face Youngstown State in a three-game series, starting with the opener on Friday, March 28, at 3:00.
