Box Score The Wright State baseball team led 5-1 after four innings, only to see Akron score eight times over the next four innings to win 9-5 Wednesday night at Nischwitz Stadium.
Akron took the early lead with a run in the first and it stayed that way until the Raiders scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Cody Simon led off with a double off the fence in left center and after advancing to third on a Jordan Jackson bunt, scored as Alex Boeri singled to right. Following a Michael Timm walk, Brad Macciocchi doubled down the left field line to produce a run and the third run came in on an Andrew McCafferty hit up the middle.
WSU extended the lead to 5-1 with two more in the fourth. John Brodner doubled in Jack Murphy, who led off with a hit, and Brodner scored on a Boeri hit up the middle.
The Raiders had chances to add on, but stranded two in the fifth and seventh and left the bases loaded in the sixth.
Akron, meanwhile, scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game and then went in front to stay with three in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Wright State had one final chance in the ninth by loading the bases with one out, but a double play ended the game.
McCafferty led the WSU offense with three hits while Simon and Boeri each had two hits, with Boeri driving in two.
