Box Score Down 8-1 after four innings, the Wright State baseball team dominated the final five frames, outscoring Northern Kentucky 14-1 to defeat the Norse 15-9 Wednesday afternoon at the Bill Aker Complex.
It was all NKU in the early going as after a scoreless first, the Norse tallied three runs in the second and fourth and two more in the third. WSU's lone run during that stretch came in the fourth as Michael Timm led off with a solo home run to left, his first of the season.
The Raiders, though, began their comeback with four runs in the fifth, keyed by a RBI double from Timm and a two-run home run to center off the bat of Gabe Snyder, his third of the year.
Northern Kentucky scored what turned out to be its final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to go up 9-6, only to see Wright State take the lead for good with five runs in the seventh, all scoring with two outs. After the first run scored on a wild pitch, Jason DeFevers tied the game with a two-run double and Derreck Garcia followed with a two-run double of his own to make it 11-9.
WSU added three more runs in the eighth on RBI singles by Sean Murphy and Mark Fowler along with a Brad Macciocchi grounder and rounded out the scoring in the ninth on a Snyder sacrifice fly.
Anderson Hasting (1-0) picked up his first win as a Raider, giving up just one run in two innings of relief. Hasting, Jack Van Horn and Andrew Elliott combined to allow only that one run over the final five inning, surrending just one hit and two walks over that stretch.
Offensively, Timm finished with four hits, scored four times and drove in two while Snyder had three hits, three runs scored and three RBI, Andrew McCafferty three hits, Garcia two hits and three RBI, DeFevers two hits and two RBI and Matt Morrow two hits.
Wright State (17-6), which extended its winning streak to 11 with the victory, travels to Valparaiso for a three-game Horizon League series this weekend. The schedule for the series may be affected by weather, check with wsuraiders.com for the latest updates.
