Down 7-2 after four innings, the Wright State baseball team scored the final seven runs of the game, including six in the seventh, to defeat Elon 9-7 in the season opener for both teams Friday at Latham Park.

The Raiders opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first. Matt Morrow led off with a single up the middle and, one out later, Ryan Fucci had a hit through the left side. With two outs, Jason DeFevers walked to load the bases and John Brodner followed with a two-run single down the right field line.

Elon, though, answered with four run in the bottom of the first and added single runs over the next three innings to go up 7-2.

WSU tacked on a run in the fifth on a Brodner hit, but still trailed 7-3 heading to the seventh. After Fucci walked and Gabe Snyder had a hit, DeFevers drove in both with a double to make it 7-5.

Another Brodner RBI single cut the deficit to one and following walks to Peyton Burdick and JD Orr, Sean Murphy delivered the big blow, a three-run triple to center to put the Raiders up for good.

The Wright State bullpen of Mark Meyer, E.J. Trapino and Jack Van Horn held Elon in check over the final 4.1 innings, allowing no runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. Meyer picked up the win in his WSU debut while Van Horn earned the save.

Offensively, Brodner finished with three hits and four RBI while Snyder had two hits and Fucci scored three times.

The Raiders and Phoenix continue their four-game weekend series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00.
