Baseball Sweeps Twinbill Against Eastern Michigan

The Wright State baseball team swept a doubleheader against Eastern Michigan Saturday at Nischwitz Stadium, taking the opener 14-0 before winning the nightcap 7-5.
In the first game, the Raiders scored a run in the first before picking up four more in the second, including a solo home run by Daniel Arthur, and then broke the game open with four in the third, an inning that featured a two-run double by Arthur.
Gabe Snyder connected on a two-run home run in the fourth and WSU rounded out the scoring with three in the fifth, two coming on a hit by Zach Weatherford.
Caleb Sampen (1-0) earned his first collegiate win by shutting out the Eagles over five innings, striking out six. Jacob Burk threw two scoreless innings and Zane Collins and John Bellomy one each to complete the shutout.
At the plate, JD Orr was three-for-three with two RBI and two runs scored while Arthur and Matt Morrow also had three hits.
In the second game, Eastern Michigan scored single runs in the first and second before Wright State took the lead with three in the third, two coming on an error and third on a Mitch Roman sacrifice fly.
The Raiders added a run in the sixth on another error and then made it 7-2 with three in the seventh, including a two-run home run by Jason DeFevers.
Mark Meyer (3-1) earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief while offensively, Mitch Roman, Ryan Fucci and John Brodner each had two hits.
Wright State (10-6) faces nationally-ranked Louisville on the road on Wednesday afternoon starting at noon.
