Scoreless through five innings, the Wright State baseball team pulled away late for an 8-0 Horizon League win over Youngstown State Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.

Starting Robby Sexton of WSU and Jeremy Quinlan of YSU hooked up in quite a pitcher's duel through the first five innings, Sexton allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out two while Quinlan gave up two hits and a walk while striking out one.

While Sexton surrendered a leadoff hit in the sixth but induced three straight ground out to preserve the shutout, the Raider offense came alive against Quinlan in the bottom of the frame. Jason DeFevers led off with a walk and singles by JD Orr and Mitch Roman loaded the bases for Gabe Snyder, whose fielder's choice produced the first run.

Ryan Fucci's fielder's choice resulted in another run and an error on the play put runners on first and third for Daniel Arthur, who drove in Snyder with a hit to left. The fourth and final run of the inning scored on a passed ball.

Wright State rounded out the scoring with four more in the eighth, including a DeFevers two-run single.

Sexton (2-1) picked up the win with his solid six innings, throwing just 64 pitches in doing so. Logan Blair retired all nine batters he faced over the final three frames, striking out one, to earn his first save of the season.

Offensively, Orr, Roman, and Snyder each had two hits for WSU.

Wright State (12-7, 2-0 Horizon) and Youngstown State (4-11, 0-2 Horizon) close out the three-game series Sunday at 1:00.
