Baseball Falls to Northern Kentucky

The Wright State baseball team led 2-0 early, only to see Northern Kentucky score five times in the fourth and fifth innings and hold on from there for a 6-4 Horizon League win Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
WSU opened the scoring with two runs in the second. Daniel Arthur led off with a walk and, one out later, moved up to second on a Jason DeFevers bunt. Peyton Burdick drove in Arthur with a hit up the middle, stole second and scored on Matt Morrow's single through the right side of the infield.
NKU, though, took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to go up 5-2.
The Raiders got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth as Burdick walked and scored when JD Orr reached on an error.
The Norse, however, went up 6-3 in the seventh with a run and it stayed that way until WSU tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Zach Weatherford led off with a walk and after DeFevers doubled to left, Burdick reached on an error as Weatherford scored.
A fielder's choice off the bat of Morrow loaded the bases with no outs, but Wright State could not complete the comeback as a strikeout and a double play ended the game.
Wright State (17-9, 6-2 Horizon) and Northern Kentucky (10-17, 1-7 Horizon) will face off in the rubber game of the series Sunday at 1:00.
