The Wright State baseball team swept a Horizon League doubleheader against Valparaiso Friday at Nischwitz Stadium, taking the first game 8-2 before rallying for an 11-10 decision in the second game.
A Daniel Arthur sacrifice fly in the second gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead in the first game and it stayed that way until the Crusaders scored twice in the top of the sixth. WSU, however, tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Sean Murphy RBI single.
Wright State then took the lead for good with four in the seventh. Gabe Snyder led off the frame with a home run to right, but the next two batters were retired. Mitch Roman, though, kept the rally alive with a hit to right and after he scored on a Peyton Burdick double, two more runs came in as Ryan Fucci homered to left center, his seventh of the season.
Snyder then tripled in a run in the eighth and scored on a Matt Morrow single to round out the scoring.
Jesse Scholtens (8-1) pitched eight innings for the win, giving up just four hits and a walk while striking out five.
Offensively, Roman had three hits while Fucci and Snyder each had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
Murphy put the Raiders up 1-0 with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning of game two, only to see Valparaiso tally three runs in the second and another in the third.
WSU tied with three in its half of the third, highlighted by a two-run Brad Macciocchi double, but the Crusaders went back in front at 10-4 with six runs over a three-inning span.
Wright State, however, would rally in its final two at-bats, starting with a five-run seventh. Bases-loaded walks to Macciocchi and Daniel Arthur resulted in the first two runs and, after Morrow had a two-run single, another bases-loaded walk to Burdick made it 10-9.
Snyder then capped off the rally in the eighth with a two-run home run to right center, his seventh of the year.
Six Raiders collected two hits in the nightcap, with Macciocchi driving in three and Morrow, Burdick and Snyder knocking in two.
Wright State (32-13, 16-4 Horizon) travels to Oakland Sunday for a noon twinbill.
