Baseball Explodes for 34 Runs in Sweep at Oakland

The Wright State baseball offense exploded for 34 runs and 33 hits Sunday in a sweep at Oakland, winning the first game 17-9 and the second game 17-1.
Gabe Snyder smacked a solo home run in the second inning of the opener and after the Raiders picked up a run in the fifth on a Matt Morrow squeeze, they added two more in the sixth on Ryan Fucci's eighth home run of the season. The Golden Grizzlies, though, scored single runs int he second, third, fifth and sixth to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the final three innings.
The seventh, however, would be all WSU as they sent 19 batters to the plate in scoring 13 runs on 12 hits. Snyder hit his second home run of the game, his fourth in three games and ninth overall, to drive in three and Fucci had a two-run single to highlight the frame.
Caleb Sampen (7-2) went six innings for the win, allowing two earned runs in scattering six hits and three walks while striking out four. At the plate, Peyton Burdick had four hits, three runs scored and two RBI, Snyder and Fucci four RBI each and Sean Murphy three RBI.
In the second game, Wright State led just 2-1 before putting together another big inning, scoring eight runs on five hits in the fourth, including a two-run Murphy single.
The Raiders added four more in the sixth, a frame that featured a Zach Weatherford solo home run and a two-run Burdick double, and three in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Trevor Swaney (7-1) struck out three in five innings for the win while Jack Van Horn, E.J. Trapino, Zane Collins and Logan Blair each pitched a scoreless inning. Offensively, John Brodner had four hits, three runs scored and two RBI, Morrow four hits and scored three times, Weatherford two hits, three runs scored and two RBI and Mitch Roman two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
Wright State (34-13, 18-4 Horizon) travels to Toledo on Wednesday, May 11, for a 4:00 contest.
